God's Word is Alive- 10/3/18
Reading: Hebrews 4
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.’”
-Hebrews 4:12
Think about your favorite Bible verse. If you have it memorized, quote it aloud. If you don’t, find it and read it. What is it you like about that verse? The message from Jesus? The articulation of words? The knowledge that God gives us through that verse? Now think…. How can I use this verse to encourage someone going through a struggle? How can I lead someone to Jesus through this single verse?
The Bible is super cool. It’s pretty neat...I can read a verse and get something entirely different than my friend or neighbor.
My favorite verse is Hebrews 4:12 for exactly this reason, God’s word is living and active. HIS WORD IS ALIVE. I love the articulation of words, the knowledge given by God, the fact that I can use this verse to tell people about Jesus by explaining his perfect word. Jesus gives us his message through this perfect word. This word which is ALIVE. We need to realize in our day to day lives that God’s word is still at work in our world. This isn’t some text that related to the biblical culture alone. NO. This word is still at work today. Every word we read from His perfect word is instruction on how to live our lives in a way like Him. Today, lean on God’s word as you go through struggles and trials. Allow His word to nurture you. Spend time in prayer and ask God how he wants you to understand His word. What passage or verse or word is calling out to you? Meditate on that scripture and pray to God for understanding. As you get into the word more and more, you will grow in the knowledge of God and how to better follow him.
