Grow in Faith by Getting in The Word - 10/5/18
Reading: Hebrews 6
“We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.’”
-Hebrews 6:12
If you want to go ahead and read chapter 11 as well, this verse will make a lot more sense contextually. The writer of Hebrews is encouraging us to continue to grow in our relationship with Christ. He knows that we like to get stuck on the basic things in Christianity: a foundation of repentance, faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection, and eternal judgment.
The only way to do this is by growing in faith by getting into the word each and every day. I know that this is reading and you get a bit of the word out of this, but I challenge you to read at least a chapter per day. I would challenge you to find a reading plan of some sort that guarantees you’re in the word each and every day. If you do the reading at the top of the devotional, that is technically a chapter per day and that is super cool, but I would also challenge you to find another way to be in the word.
-Pray that you can find time to put Jesus first in life and find a time to get into his word more and more. I would recommend waking up 25 minutes early than normal, getting a cup of coffee (or tea) and just diving into the Bible. Pick a book of the Bible that you'd love to grow in knowledge of and day by day, just read a chapter of that until you've completed it and then pick a new book and repeat. I promise it gets easier once you actually get started! Good luck!
*I have a pretty okay sermon on this topic if anyone is interested in checking it out. The links to read or to listen to the sermon are both below. Thanks!
